The MTA has renamed the subway station to Christopher Street – Stonewall Station, coinciding with the opening of a historic visitor center next door.

The MTA announced on Friday that the subway station near the historic Stonewall Inn has been renamed to reflect its significance in the LGBTQ+ rights movement and in support of Pride.

Formerly known as Christopher St - Sheridan Sq, the station will now be called Christopher Street - Stonewall Station. This change was made possible after Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation approving the new name.

Located next to the Stonewall Inn and the newly established Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, the station continues to serve the no. 1 train.
