Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced a grand conclusion for the blockbuster Demon Slayer anime franchise. They revealed on Sunday that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, the concluding episodes of the immensely popular anime series, will be released as a trilogy of theatrical films worldwide. This three-part installment serves as the final arc and culmination of the award-winning anime shonen series.
Previously, Mugen Train, another film in the expansive Demon Slayer saga, set records as the highest-grossing anime movie of all time and the highest-grossing Japanese film globally, earning over $500 million in total ticket sales.
"Bringing this trilogy of films to fans on the big screen promises to be one of the truly epic and consequential pop-cultural events of our time," said Rahul Purini, Crunchyroll's president, expressing excitement about the upcoming release.
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) have secured worldwide rights for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, with the exception of certain Asian territories including Japan. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is adapted from the manga series by Koyoharu Gotoge, serialized in Shueisha’s Jump Comics and spanning 23 volumes with over 150 million copies in circulation. Since its debut in 2018, this action fantasy anime franchise has evolved into a global cultural phenomenon. The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, who joins the Demon Slayer Corps to restore his younger sister Nezuko to human form after she is transformed into a demon following the murder of their family.
Produced by the Tokyo-based studio Ufotable, various anime TV series and films based on Demon Slayer have contributed significantly to the rising global popularity of Japanese anime.
